Striker question

I have been wondering this for some time now. But, why do most callmakers make their strikers with a flared/mushroomed tip?  I know it comes down to personal preference, but, from what I see, most guys make flared/mushroom tipped over straight tips

I have both, and truly like the sound of a straight tip over the flared tip.

What do you guys think?

I hunt with both but normally prefer a flared tip. I think, for me, the edge effect brings out just a whisker more in the call. I notice in the flare tips I like there seems to be a bit less diameter in the striker as well (just behind the striker section).  A wee bit more induced vibration...and more raspy tone? And it may be the style that I run the call with as well.  Interesting question tho. Hope there is some feedback.

I have both also, and like both.... The flair tips gives you more striker tip mass contact to the playing surface of a call. Giving you more bite to the surface of a call. Less chance for error when calling. I think the flair tips are a little more "user friendly". It's all about putting the right striker to the right call it likes the best. That's the best part about hunting with pots. One pot and a few different strikes in your vest... You got a whole flock of tones to throw at them. jmo
