I don't think anyone has an issue with you not liking the call, each maker works to have a signature sound that may or may not be what you are looking for.  As far as craftsmanship, hard to tell without pictures to back it up but every pic Brent has shown so far looks like they take pride in what they do.  The issue is with how you handled it.  First and foremost, if you have a problem you should go to the maker FIRST instead of posting a slam on a public forum.  That would be the decent thing to do.

WOW!!   Sorry to ruffle feathers here....that was not my intention.  For some reason I thought counter opinions would be welcome.  Guess not!

To paraphrase the chief...."I shall discuss this no more, forever!"

Counter opinions are welcome...but only if they have merit.  From what I've read yours don't merit being taken seriously.  As stated by others if you really had an issue with the call in question you would/should have contacted the callmaker first.  You don't even have to own a camera, all you needed to do was to make a phone call and send the call back.  I'm sure they would have done everything possible to make it right.

Hey guys, this is Jim with Derby City.  I would just like to reiterate what Brent has said for anyone who ever gets one of our calls.  We inspect and test every call.  We have thrown out many good pots that either don't make the grade with sound or appearance.  It is possible that one bad one could get by or maybe damaged in shipping.  That is where we want to shine as well.  We believe in great customer service.  We are going to make it right.  Everyone is entitled to their opinion and we want honest opinions on our products.  If you are not happy at all, give us a chance to make it right.  I can guarantee that these are not craft calls.  If anyone on here lives close to Louisville or comes here any time soon, please come to our shop and will we give you a tour and talk some Turkey.  We think you will be impressed.  Brent and I love this forum and look forward to meeting many of you in Nashville.  Thanks for the great welcome and the support.  It means a lot to all of us at Derby City.

brent, all one can ask is that the callmaker try to make things right, which is exactly what you guys are willing to do.

i too think there is nothing to the comments of l-wes (or whoever he is) and i wouldn't be expecting to see that call come back to you guys.  if he does have a call and can verify that there is an issue with it, then i apoligize.  if not, pathetic is all i can say.

Wow ! I haven't seen any topic blow up like this one. I would just like to add this: If someone bought you a gift from Wal-mart and it was defective, you would certainly return it to the store and not just keep it because it was a gift. If you really do have a call that doesn't sound good then please take them up on their offer to replace it. I know that ALL good callmakers will replace a call if the buyer feels it isn't right. We strive for 110 % satisfaction and it is not in a callmakers best interest to ever let one go out the door if it isn't top quality. Those who do, would not be as ready as Derby City is to make it right with you. I think that you have probably offended the ethics of we callmakers and that is why you are getting slammed. Do the right thing and send the call back. We all put guarantees on the calls we make for that reason! These guys are doing handstands to make it right, give them the chance before you rip them on a public forum. Callmaking is very serious to the people on this site !

What an excellent post here!  I've talked to Brent and I can assure you they are working with L-Wes to make things right.  This board is all about opinions here.  I still believe we live in the best Country in the world.  I would never go against something my grandfather fought so hard to protect... our freedoms.  The first two amendments mean everything to me!

Now I will say this, if you are going to talk the talk, you'd better be able to walk the walk (a saying my grandfather told me many years ago).

I have a call from Derby City (getting ready to post pictures of it and many others).  Brent has made sure I'm happy with it.  I've had "issues" in the past with calls and I've always contacted the callmaker directly!  I had one call that the mail system literally destroyed.  Wasn't his fault and wasn't mine.  He TOOK care of it though!

After talking to Brent, him and Jim are spending time to make this right.  Derby City is trying to track down where the call went and who bought it.  I can guarantee you it will be replaced!

Lastly, sorry I've been a little late in responding.  Getting home at 4 in the morning while starting work at 8 in the morning... wears on an old man  ROTFLMBO  Didn't envision a 20 hour work day, but it happened.

Since L-Wes and Derby City are working on this privately now, we'll keep it private.
