Thinking about a crossbow...need advice...

I have been looking at the Barnett Quad 400 crossbow.  It is on the mid to low scale, price wise.  I can't see paying a thousand for one.  Do any of you have any advice before I purchase?

Just got one myself Tom. I spent the extra and bought a TenPoint. Not a purchase based on any advice other than what I'd read. I'll be paying attention to this thread and hope to learn more along with you.

Either ten point or exacaliber. Excaliber are single limb no spilt limbs on them easy to maintain simple to use crossbow. Ten point on the other hand spilt limb bows they are heavier but are deadly deadly accurate an a bit more higher priced. Either one of those two companies are the best on the market on my opinion. I have shot them both an would hesitate on either .

I have a Ten Point and an Excaliber. Both are fantastic. The Excaliber is a bit wide for tree stand hunting but if you are careful and clear limbs away from your stand, will serve you well.

I have had an Excaliber Exomax for several years, and have killed several deer with it...It is deadly out to 40 yds...bought it at a pawn shop for a great price. it was like new, my buddy that owns the pawn shop said the older gentleman that brought it in couldnt pull it back to cock it. I couldnt either to start with because the cocker rope wasnt set up right. I took it home and set it up and it works fine, still a monster to cock, but it is deadly....It is big and heavy though.

I too have been looking at a crossbow. Excalibur crossbows are a good choice. I got my eye on a Barnett Ghost 385. A buddy off mine has one. Says it is accruals and quiet.

TenPoint has a built in cocking mechanism that eliminates the need to have to pull the string back that is awesome. They also come with a scope that has been sighted in at the factory. Mine shot dead on right out of the box. Also thirteen inches axle to axle when cocked so it's very low profile.
