Please dont take this the wrong way but what sound can you get from a scratcher that you can't get from another style of caller plus some.  I don't claim to be an expert on a scratcher, but it just seems other types of callers are much more versatile.

Randy, you are absolutely right, there IS no sound that you can get from a scratch box that other callers won't make.  There are a lot of people, however, who would make the argument that the scratch box will make almost every sound that other callers make and make them as well and in many cases, better, than other callers. They are smaller and easier to carry, are less fragile and make less noise in your vest than most other callers.
Scratch boxes will not gobble, as far as I know, and a kee-kee takes a LOT of practice, but they have a following within the Tenth Legion that borders on being a cult.  I never knew until 10 or 15 years ago, when my Mississippi Scratch Boxes  began to earn acceptance in the call making world, just how many people hunt with them, and most of these folks hunt exclusively with them. 
Again, you are absolutely right, but on the other hand, thousands of deceased longbeards can't be wrong, either!

Randy......Every kind of call has it's own versatilities, give the caller can run it? A scratch box kind of has it's own tone and some days that's all it takes.

Scratch boxes are among the oldest style turkey calls known. Your point, can be made for almost every call designed to take turkeys. Some folks like a box call, some a pot call, some mouth calls. We all have our go to call. Problem is if the turkey doesn't wish to hear what you have to offer....and most times don't, it is always helpful to have something they may not have heard, before. And there is always room for an extra call that doesn't take up much room in a vest or weigh down a vest. The again, after seeing how many people "attempt" to play a scratch box, they don't want to take the time to learn a very seldom used tool.....choosing instead, a call they feel more confident with. The old adages, "To each his own" or "Try it, you'll like it" both have merit.
