My son's Nasville box call entry
« on: January 07, 2015, 12:58:33 PM »
My oldest son, he is 15, finally has shown an interest over the past year or so in learning how to build box calls. We started out last year with shop safety and learning how to respect and use power tools. This was a loooong process with MANY mistakes along the way, all part of learning. We made a few "field grade" boxes together with me showing him the ins and outs of call making, at least what I have learned so far! I can't tell you how many lids he ruined trying to get the radius right or cutting inlay grooves. A lot of frustration for him and I'm sure it didn't help that I was constantly over his shoulder telling him what he was doing wrong! He finally wanted to build a box to enter in Nashville. I told him he should use cedar and he decided on a cedar box with purpleheart lid, ends and base and yellowheart inlays. He built this call from start to finish, agian with a lot of mistakes and had to start over several times. I am so proud of him for how it turned out. It looks and sounds great!!

That's a special box call there. I like the wood choices, they blend well together. Most importantly, its a call neither of you will ever forget. I hope you plan on buying it back, I wouldn't let it out of my sight if it was my sons call . Very nice job all around .
