 If I remember correctly, the "Old Masters" hunted Fall turkeys because there was no Spring season. I suppose, because of this, they would have been looking for the best sounding trumpets to produce those Fall calls, experimenting constantly to achieve that goal.

And most, from what I've read, were against spring seasons too!

Henry Davis said, any tyro could kill a lovelorn gobbler in the spring; but, he would bet that 95% could not kill that same gobbler in the fall if their life depended on it.

I had to look the word "tyro" up. It has a totally different meaning than I thought.
