Hey Charlie, I dont know if anyone has asked you, or even knows , but how do you acid stain the wood you work with? I'm new to the 'game' and would like to have some kinda idea. I think I know what you're  talking about because I think I did some cedar like that a while back. It actually turned almost as dark as the inside of a pocketbook:)

                  No secret about it...it is dilute nitric acid with metal shavings added,,,,then heated

I learn something every day.  I didn't know that you could do an acid stain on maple.  I knew it could be done on oak, but have never seen it done on maple....I like it.
Staining curly maple is very difficult and still maintain the figure.  But that staining looks like it did that well.
