Last week brought the rut in here in Ohio and the bucks are on their feet ! My good friends Ed and Taylor Patton came in from different ends of the country to do a little deer hunting with me . We found a great little cabin close to my farms where we stayed for the week . The hunting was great and we were all seeing multiple bucks each sit . Taylor had a close encounter from one of my stands when an 11 point buck with a ten inch drop tine , walked through just out of range . Taylor said " That was easily the biggest deer I have ever seen , even on someone else's wall ! " ( note : He hasn't seen the wall in my house obviously ) LOL !!! Ed had an equally good hunt and one morning he would have tagged the biggest buck of his life ... but his bow's cam lightly tapped against his tree stand as he drew on the 10 pointer at 18 yds . As big bucks do, he bolted into the next county without even looking back . Good times were had every night and we are already making plans for our next hunt together .
Back in March, while I was staying with Taylor , he showed me a knife that his Dad, Ed, had made from the antlers from one of his elk kills. That little knife was really nice and I asked Ed if he could make one for me . Turns out that he has a list of family members waiting on their own knives ! Well the stars were shining on me because Ed surprised me with this fantastic knife that he made with Argentine Stag Horn . The drop point blade is absolutely perfect for hunting chores and I have already had the opportunity to put it to use . Ed , I can't thank you enough my friend . Looking forward to spending another great day under the live oaks with ya !!
