Federal Heavyweight Question
« on: December 16, 2012, 11:44:28 AM »
I am shooting a SBEII and am thinking of trying the Federal Heavyweight out for the heck of it. I ordered a few boxes of 3.5" #7's, does anyone here shoot this combo, and if so what choke(s) have you had luck with? Currently the only NON PORTED choke I have is a PG Tempest .670", which I am planning on patterning, but any other suggestions are welcome! Thank you!

The federal heavyweight is some really good stuff IF you can find a choke that works with the flight-control wad. You are starting in a good spot with the non ported puregold .670. Perhaps you could call William at sumtoy chokes and he could help you find something that works better. The benelli's generally like to be choked a little tighter than others. Good luck!

My SBEII likes a constriction between .665 and .670 with most loads. Some like a tighter constriction. That PG might work out just fine. Give it a shot. I think its a good starting point. You may want to even try talking to Rob Roberts. I believe that is what he uses in his Benelli turkey guns. They sure do lay a licken on the birds.

I shoot it out of a 20 gauge. I have two guns and both like it out of a Sumtoy. One also likes it shot out of a truglo SSX. Iv heard the 20 gauge are a different animal than a 12.

On another board, there was a lot of the 12 ga guys having good luck with a non ported Carlson and Sumtoy.
