Lonnie - sorry for your loss.  My lab is 13 1/2 and I don't enjoy thinking about it.  Don't know if you named him after Fletch, the movie with Chevy Chase, but it is one of my favorites and if you need a good laugh I would recommend you watch it.  I think your friend calling was a sign from a higher power with a higher meaning - go get the dog!  *prayer*

Lonnie---dog people all understand and feel your loss.....its a $#@ tough thing.
They earn a part of the family and become a true friend no doubt.
Our companions are not with us long enough, as their life span is alot shorter than ours. Ya know it when ya bring them home, but its something ya ignore until ya have to face that day. I have Goldens, I have hunted with them and they are a very important part of my life also. So far, I have battled cancer in two of them and eventually had to put them down. I was a wreck let me say. They were companions as I stated.
Get back in the game friend. Get another companion, not a replacement, as there will never be that, but you will find that a new COMPANION will find another place in your heart to share time with .
Sorry for your loss

Lonnie, this was very well versed by Jeff and and there isn't much I could add.  Scott

Called my buddy this morning to see if I could still get the pup. I am going when I get off work to pick her up. She is a lab mix like ol Fletch but she is yellow and Fletch was brown. I remarried sence my wife died 10 years ago and Fletch took right to Kathy and she took right to him. Kathy works out of town and has not been home sence Fletch died. Fletch always meets her at the car when she pulls in, on Friday eve. This Friday when she pulls in I am going to be standing there with (our) new lab mix pup. Maybe she won't start crying. I am not replacing Fletch I am just getting me a new buddy.

Lonnie,

One chapter is completed and a new one is about to start....I'm very sorry to hear of Fetch's passing.....May the memories, be many to sit and ponder over, after the hurt, pain, and sorrow ease....

Enjoy that new pup...She'll surely help ease the hurt and pain, too......

Hate it for you Lonnie, that's a hard loss. I'm sure that the new pup will ease your loss and become a new best bud in no time.

Got the pup the other night and she is a good one. The wife and I both love her and she has taken to us. She had the name Jewel but I did not like that name so one the way home I poped in a Fleetwood Mac CD and the song Gypsy was the first song to play. I like that song and now Gypsy is my pups name. The wife likes it for a name also. So I changed it from Jewel to Gypsy. The pup is not but a couple months old and she comes to the name Gypsy when I call for her. Never had to put her in the pen or anything. I had her in the hauling box on the way home for about an hr. When I got home I put the hauling box on the porch with one of my dirty work shirts in it and a pillow and she went right in. I left the door on it open and she was in it the next morning and the only time she has left the porch is to go to the bathroom or if the wife or I go out into the yard. I think she is going to be a good one.
