BEE"S
« on: September 03, 2012, 09:13:31 AM »
Cutter and I got up early and decided to go for a walk and scout for turkeys. We didn't get very far when we ran in to a ground nest of Yellowjackets, I had just stopped to call when Cutter started to whimper and bite at his side, I didn't know what was going on till I heard the buzz in the air, We took off running with lots of them chaseing us, cutter kept stopping  to bite at them, while i was trying to brush them off of him I was gettin pretty stung up. I don't think I've moved that fast in a long time.I ended up getting stung 14 times, really not sure how many times he got it , but got his collar off and headed for home, Gave him a benadryl when we got home. He seems ok  now I just hope the rest of our Labor day goes better than our morning .

Thats terrible . i hope cutter is ok. I was hanging treestands on a couple of my farms last week and on the last camera i put up , i must have stepped over a yellow jacket nest. within a brief second, I was covered with hundreds of yellow jackets. it seemed like everyone of them stung me at the instant they landed on me. they were very aggressive and in pure attack mode. I ran as quuck as i could to distance myself from the nest because they are defending it. My buddy tried to rake them off me with a handsaw but only got himself swarmed. He tells me there were at least 100 on my back . I peeled
my shirt off and took off running. my buddy asked me where i was running, he thought i was headed for the creek. I told him I wasnt going to stop til i got home , if thats what it took to get away. Over an hour drive home ,lol. I got away with morr than 100 stings all over . Luckily I am not allergic to them. Be very careful in the woods this fall.

Found two ground nests around my house as well. I was painting the foundation on my house to see I had one in one of the bushes out front and I still have one in the rock wall out back. I hate the darn things and they are real mean. I hope both of you are OK and cutter as well. Good luck with the rest of the weekend.

Ouch! Glad you guys are ok. that remindes me, years ago i was bush hoging the gas easment on my hunting property and ran over a huge yellow jacket nest. started getting stung did not know what was going on thought it was briers, all the sudden i was covered up with bees. i jumped off the tractor and ran, some of the bees followed me but most stayed with the tractor which was headed to the woods. the tractor hit a tree and dug in and kept runing and trying to climb the tree, those bees stayed around the tractor about 30 min. before i could turn it off. my son was with me and said he saw me going one way and the tractor going another, he still laughts about it.
