Went out this morning with a friend of mine to hunt a bird we had seen earlier in the week. By the time we got set up the bird was already on the ground gobbling, I pulled out a Glen Marrer alum green meanie, and gave him a few crisp yelps; and got an imediate response. After a few more calls he was getting really fired up, and on his way toward us. As he got closer I switch to a Daryl Slaton ceramic call, and he went crazy. He appeared on the edge of the field about 80 yards out and began to put on a show, a few more soft yelps mixed with some clucks from the ceramic and he was on his way. Just before he was in range he stopped strutting, turned and began to walk away at this time I began to wonder did he see us or something he didn't like? Two seconds later Patrick turns to me and says "look 2 more". I never saw them coming, but to longbeards came running out of no where and chased the gobbling bird off. I hear Patrick say shoot the 1 in the back, then he says you ready, I reply with " NO WAIT"; and apparently he hears "yes go ahead" (amazing what someone can hear when they want to) and he shoot. So when the smoke cleared 1 bird was flopping 1 barrel smoking and neither 1 was mine. Well thats the way it goes, if your going to get sandbagged mite as well be by a friend. As a side note this has happened to me before, won't mention any names but a lil hint for this person- last time it happend to me I was in Oklahoma. Guess 1 dead bird is better than no dead bird, and it all good since this is only Patrick's 2nd bird in his life, though he has been trying for many years he just got his 1st bird last weekend. I did tell him he is going to have to start calling for me, so maybe I can let the nitro fly.

Special thanks to Glen Marrer and Daryl Slaton for making such a killer call.
