Need some help
« on: March 28, 2012, 01:56:54 PM »

I have 50 acres that backs up to mountainous (Alabama mountainous) terrain that is National Forrest.

We have plenty of birds on the property and they have had virtually no pressure over the past 5 years. I have been after them pretty good over the past two weeks and have only heard one gobble way off in the distance on a different ridge. I know the birds are there I have pictures of them on two different cameras and my brother saw a flock of them on the gas line this morning at 11:30.

So my question is this. Everyone in this area is saying the birds are hammering like they have not seen in years but I have not heard or seen anything. What should I do? Any tips or tactics that you guys can give me.

Be patient...probably something as simple as right now they're henned up, and don't need to gobble.

But if it was me, I'd take off onto that public ground and try and find a bird that wanted to work.

Good luck!

They are probably not roosting on your 50 acres.

The reason you aren't hearing any gobbling is probably because they are roosted w/ the hens and don't have to gobble. Don't hunt them till later in the morning. That will give them a chance to leave the hens and be moving a round, looking.

I have a gas line that runs the left side of my property.  They roost to the left of that on a neighbors place then fly down and use my land all day for eating and whatever else. I have several clover, alfalfa, oats and other food plots they seem to frequent while I am not there.
