Scary ordeal with my son

Well my Valentines day did not go like I intended it too.  Got home and was starting to fix dinner with the wife when the boy came running in screaming bloody murder...

A neighbors dog got loose and bit him in the mouth.  It looked worse than it was, but now we have to watch out for infection.  We spent a few hours in the ER and got him all cleaned up.  He will be on some nasyt tasting antibiotics for 10 days.  This has terrified him from dogs.  This dog has bit at least 3 people now and they had just gotten it back after it bit the mail lady.  Makes me wonder how and why they got it back, but the cops said this should be the end of that dogs life.

I have to go deal with the paper work with submitting everything and now try to figure out how to make them pay for the ER bill.  I do not care for these neighbors and they scare me.

I'm glad Mitchell is doing fine, but one of the bites is right on the top gum above his front two teeth.  They are really worried about that bite

It could have been worse, the dog could have gotten him around the neck.  I'm just glad he is fine and hope he doesn't fear dogs from now on.

That is terrible. I hope is makes a speedy recovery.

If those folks have home owners insurance, the company will jump on the claim and get those medical bills paid in a hurry. Only problem is "if" they have any coverage and "if" they will report the claim.

Dang, I hate to hear this Mike....I Hope and Pray for a speedy recovery for mitchell! Hopefully that dogs day's are numbered. I love dogs don't get me wrong.... Dogs like those need to be in junkyards not our neighborhoods! Good luck buddy!!

thanks guys much appreciated.  Mitchell is fine so far... scarred sore and would you believe the neighbors have not even came and checked on his well being... what has this world came to?

I have never contacted an attorney in my life, but I will make certain this dog is gone.  I didn't go down their last night knowing I would shoot the dog and get into it with the owner.  He's a real tool.    He drove by and just glared at me and my wife tonight. 

I'm getting ready to go talk to the cops (who did a fantastic job getting here and being super friendly).  The Police Chief doesn't like the dog either since it has attacked him too we found out. 

I just hope he doesn't set an infection up.  I love small towns, but one of the problems is getting bad neighbors...  I've never really cared for this one and now I'm really not keen on them...  I just wish it would have bit me and not my son. 

Now I just have to keep my wife under control.  For those that do not know her, she's a handful.  She's my personal body guard   He was less than 20 yards from our house when this happened and I was just outside.  I'm kind of kicking myself for not asking him to come in last night.  he's everything to me and when your kid gets hurt... it hurts you worse than them.  I'm not good with dealing with blood and boy was he bleeding last night...

I don't know any of the circumstances you have in getting along with the neighbors but I think before I went any further talking about getting an attorney etc.  I would at least call the neighbor and make him aware of the medical bills and ask him if he is going to offer paying them or at least the deductible from your insurance.  Are these people homeowners or are they renters?  I ask because I know the attitudes usually differ considerably in these cases!

I have been through this dog thing with a neighbor in yrs past and no matter how good or bad you get along it is always better to at least try getting along before ever involving police or an attorney.  Involving either one of these can cause hard feelings that may never reverse and only worsen over the years.

The dog would be .....a....lets say-----missing if he has already bit three people now.
Ya may want to heed GSLAM95's advice and make a initial attempt. Homeowners does not want this liablity--its a open door for liable sense it has happened 3 time now.
Make sure you doccument everything here

I'm just getting prepared.  Cops said they (the family) were going to pay the bills and to bring the bills to them and they would deliver them.  I will give them the benefit of the doubt first, but I just have that gut feeling. 

The only problem is this guy is a semi-nut and not someone any of us talk too...   cops told me I did the right thing notifying them and letting them handle it.  If looks could kill, we'b be dead this morning from them driving by and glaring at us.  I know they are not happy, but having a vicious dog out and about is not cool either...

I hate to see harm done to animals and I hate to see the dog put down, but seeing your kid bit by the dog isn't cool either.  I'm as big of an animal lover as there is.  It's all in how the animal is treated.  They have one other dog that is pretty mean too.  I just hope they decide to keep it locked away and secure.
